My china

Okay, so I love china... A lot!!! I have been collecting china ever since my early twenties... I know I have more china than I can possibly use, but I can't seem to be able to let go of much... I have four children... Maybe they'll want some? Mayble they will think it's ugly and old fashioned!!

The first set I ever bought was a tea set from Churchill, an English pottery. Still, to this day, it is one of my favorite collections! Unfortunately, the teapot broke, so I am always on the lookout...

Then, when Mark and I got married, we registered at a shop for a lovely Villeroy & Boch dinner set. Since we had less than 40 guests at our wedding, that was the only thing we registered for. The bone china set has an asian flair, and is called Nanking. By the way, it has never been used (in seventeen years!!!!)

Later, when we moved to London for a diplomatic mission, I became fascinated with the Portmeirion pottery, namely their Pomona collection!! It features a variety of fruits drawn with a vintage feel. So, one weekend, a few girlfriends and I took a trip to Stoke-on-Trent to visit the factory, and came home with a lovely collection at incredible savings. All the pieces are second choice (meaning they didn't pass the first quality inspection), but you cannot tell there is anything wrong - sometimes it's something as simple as an air bubble on the back...!

On the same trip, I also bought a few pieces of Franciscan ware (I believe from the Royal Doulton Outlet store?)

In addition, I have a huge collection of red transferware and Limoges plates....

But, I have to say, one of my favorite pieces in my collection is this set (and I wish I had more...), stamped MYOTT, Staffordshire, England. Pink, with roses.... What more could I ask for...?!!

  1. I love the Spode, love, love, love it, oh yeah!!! I do love all pink china, and the delicate floral patterns. I once saw a ruffled china that is used by the Royal family, a mere couple thousand dollars a place setting, but it is still my absolute favorite to this day!!!!
I love all your beautiful china, it's so nice to see it all!

  4. Isabel,

I love all those dishes. I never can seem to get enough of them. I love dishes from England. I just picked up some of the cutest dishes yesterday with pink roses on them. You would love them!

  5. Love this post. Wish I had many different sets of china. I tend to collect the odd pieces here and there, and don't have room (my dream; hugh butler's pantry) for even those really!

  6. i am with you an the china collecting for sure. what i hate is moving every 2 years (military) and taking it all with us. it's a nightmare, but when i open it and unpack it, i am in love all over again. it's just a hassle.
all of your collections are wonderful, so it is not surprising that you have a beautiful china collection too.
    thanks for sharing.

  9. It took me 10 years to collect the pink myott dinnerware. I sold 1 plate for 40 dollars and the collectors will pay that. Do yours have a crown on the back? Those dishes were made for Queen Victoria in 1936 by the staffordshire factory. I ebay as a buyer and will leave bids but never win. About 5 years ago I leave a bid of 150.00 for a complete set for 4. I won! Then I found the double handled soup bowls in Canton (10) for 8.00 each which is a steal. Someday I will find the tea pot. I'm a dishaholic. Loved all. Good luck collecting. Blessings, Marta.

  10. I have a complete set of 24 place settings of vintage Franciscian-ware "Apple" pattern that I have had for the last 20 years. It was my mother-in-laws before me, and before that it was in the trash bin when the prior pastor left the church my in-laws serve at. I remember the first time I saw it, and thought it was the ugliest pattern that I'd ever seen, only to fall in love with it after eating on it at many big family events. I still use it EVERY day, chips and all. That ironstone has been witness to a lot of special family memories over the years.
